Stephanie Le, M.D., general psychiatry resident physician, was named the 2017 Palmetto Health Resident Physician of the Year at the annual medical and dental resident physician’s graduation.

The award recognizes resident physicians’ medical knowledge and abilities, as well as their commitment to Palmetto Health’s values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity and teamwork. Le received a plaque, a certificate and $2,500.

Le completed her fourth year of training in general psychiatry, and will begin training in the Palmetto Health-University of South Carolina School of Medicine Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship program. She was nominated by Craig Stuck, M.D., program director for the General Psychiatry Residency program, and was chosen by the Richland Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees.

Stuck said, “Dr. Le is one of the most diligent and hardworking residents who has trained in our program. She has established a reputation as someone who is a dependable team member on whom others can rely. She is not just a team player; she is the player you want on your team!”

In addition, Stuck noted Le’s willingness to listen to her instincts, and follow through with clinical excellence in evaluation and formulation with lifesaving results. “She has the integrity to advocate for her patients; even in situations where her diagnostic ability is called into question, she has responded with honesty and acted non-defensively for what she knows is the proper ethical course. Dr. Le embodies Palmetto Health values and inspires them in others.”

Six other residents nominated for the award include Kari-Claudia Allen, M.D., Family Medicine Residency; Rebecca Burnside, M.D., Internal Medicine Residency; Carrye Daum, M.D., Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency; James Fallin, M.D., Emergency Medicine Residency; and Michael Tjahjadi, M.D., Pediatrics Residency.
