Palmetto Heart Designated as a Patient-Centered Specialty Practice

Posted on 4/1/2015

Palmetto Heart is the first specialty practice in South Carolina to receive this designation.

Palmetto Heart has been honored by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as the first cardiology practice in South Carolina, and the second cardiology practice in the United States, to receive the Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP) recognition.

NCQA recognizes practices that are committed to sharing information and coordinating care. These practices demonstrate patient-centered care through streamlined referral processes and care coordination with referring clinicians, timely patient and caregiver-focused care management, and continuous clinical quality improvement.

Palmetto Heart is a team of 16 cardiologists and 15 advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants, who treat conditions ranging from heart valve disorders to peripheral vascular disease to atrial fibrillation through innovative services and procedures. Palmetto Heart is affiliated with Palmetto Health Heart Hospital, the state’s only freestanding hospital dedicated solely to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
