Palmetto Health hospitals being activated to assist hurricane victims

Palmetto Health has been activated to assist those who need medical care from Puerto Rico as part of the National Disaster Medical System, a federally coordinated health care system.

The Palmetto Health Emergency Management Team, leaders and team members across our health care system are evaluating our resources and preparing to accept and care for these patients. Palmetto Health hospitals have already begun receiving patients. Currently, we have received two patients.

Steve Shelton, M.D., medical director of Emergency Management and emergency room physician, said, "As a health care system, Palmetto Health is constantly preparing for situations such as this where we can be of service to other areas in times of crisis. We are honored to be able help those who need medical care from Puerto Rico and welcome them with open arms."

Palmetto Health does not know how many patients we will receive and exactly when they will arrive.
