Palmetto Health’s Ambulatory Care Transition Team recently was awarded the Above and Beyond Award by the South Carolina Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a United States Department of Defense office. The award recognizes employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits and other similar benefits when mobilized.
Palmetto Health joins thousands of American employers who have reviewed and amended their current human resources policies to ensure compliance with the USERRA.
“Some of our most qualified candidates and successful team members are active guard and reserve soldiers,” said Rob Brinkerhoff, system vice president of Human Resources at Palmetto Health. “Beyond the enormous sense of gratitude and appreciation for their service, we consider it a privilege to be in a position of not only securing their position while mobilized, but going above and beyond regulatory requirements to provide benefits and additional support.”
“The ESGR Above and Beyond Award was created to publicly recognize American employers providing extraordinary patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve, said Eli Wishart, SC ESGR state chair. “Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”
