COLUMBIA, SC – Palmetto Health has named Mark A. Jones, M.D., as the Palmetto Health Richand trauma medical director. Jones has served as the interim trauma medical director since July 2014 as well as the associate trauma medical director since 2010.
Jones currently serves as vice chairman of the South Carolina American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, associate residency program director for the Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program and assistant professor of Clinical Surgery for the University of South Carolina Department of Surgery.
James I. Raymond, M.D., Palmetto Health chief medical and academic officer, said, “Dr. Jones has demonstrated leadership and a commitment to the Trauma Program since joining Palmetto Health. We look forward to his leadership as he leads this program in the years to come.”
Jones graduated summa cum laude from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor of Science in philosophy in 2000. He received his medical degree from East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine in 2004. He was a general surgery resident with the Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program July 2004–June 2010. During his residency, he was named the Surgery Resident of the Year in 2008 and 2010.
He is married to Rachel A. Houchins, M.D., Palmetto Health trauma psychiatrist. They have one daughter.
