In recognition of September as Infant Mortality Awareness Month, Palmetto Health will host its Infant Mortality Awareness Walk Saturday, Sept. 15, 10 a.m., at Irmo Community Park, 7507 Eastview Dr., Irmo. This event recognizes infants who are celebrating their first birthday and remembers those who are not. A similar event is planned in Sumter County during the SafeKids Grits for Grands, Saturday, Sept. 8, 9 a.m.–noon, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.
All Palmetto Healthy Start services are designed to improve the health of infants and to reduce infant mortality rates, which is a significant indicator of health. For the past two years of reporting (FY 2016 and 2017), there were zero infant deaths among all Palmetto Healthy Start participants.
