Healing Harmonies, S.C. Philharmonic outreach music program, comes to Palmetto Health Baptist on April 13
Since 2013, ensembles of South Carolina Philharmonic have visited facilities to present an upbeat, hourlong performance of classical and contemporary favorites as part of their Healing Harmonies program. Performances at the hospital to date have lifted spirits of patients in Palmetto Health facilities including its Children’s Hospital, Cancer Center, Heart Hospital and Richland Springs.
Next week, the series comes to Palmetto Health Baptist with its first concert in Ambulatory Surgery, third floor. Patients and team members who are in the area are invited to listen to a few minutes of soothing music. Monthly concerts also are held at Palmetto Health Richland.
WHEN: Wednesday, April 13
TIME: 11 a.m.-Noon
PLACE: Ambulatory Surgery, Third floor
ABOUT: The program began thanks to the work of Frank Clark, M.D. while he was a member of the South Carolina Philharmonic board of directors and a then-psychiatric resident at Palmetto Health. His career moved him from Columbia in 2014, but the program continues to grow.
At the program’s creation, Clark said, “Music can be a healing tool that restores the soul. It is a form of medicine that strives to revitalize the community at large.”
