Prisma Health Richland Hospital Trauma Center is offering “Stop the Bleed” courses this weekend.
Unfortunately, there is a disturbing rise nationally in the number of mass shootings. In each of these tragedies, the No. 1 cause of death is bleeding from uncontrollable hemorrhage.
Prisma Health Richland Hospital, the Midlands region's only Level I Trauma Center, provides community education as part of its outreach. One of the courses offered is “Stop the Bleed,” which is designed to train individuals in bleeding control techniques.
WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 24
TIME: Two 90-minute courses at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
WHERE: Prisma Health Richland Hospital Auditorium, Five Richland Medical Park Dr., Columbia.
Enter building by auditorium entrance. Entrance is on the left of main entrance on the Harden St. side of building. Please do not enter building at any other location.
Motivated by the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2012 and multiple tragedies that have occurred in subsequent years, the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma developed “Stop the Bleed” education and information to inform, educate and empower surrounding citizens across the United States.
