Fireflies Reading Program provides reading incentives to community children.
Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, as an advocate for children’s health and development, teams up with the Columbia Fireflies as the lead sponsor of the Fireflies’ Reading Program. The program helps promote reading and literacy by providing students incentives to read. This program closely aligns with Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital advocacy for literacy through other initiatives like Reach Out and Read.
Students sign up through their teachers or their school. They earn prizes as they achieve different milestones along their journey through the program. Once the students have successfully 'read around the bases' and hit a home run with the program, he or she will receive a ticket to a 2017 Fireflies game, a free meal at their game, a free pass to EdVenture and a special prize upon their arrival at Spirit Communications Park.
