EVENT:                 Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital NICU Birthday Party

WHEN:                 Saturday, May 21

TIME:                    10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Front lawn at Palmetto Health Richland, 5 Richland Medical Park Dr., Columbia, South Carolina

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) hosts an annual birthday party to celebrate the lives of all babies who remained in the NICU for a period of time before going home. The event offers an opportunity for families to reconnect with the physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and staff who cared for their babies. This year’s celebration has a carnival theme, with refreshments, cotton candy, face painting and games for children and their families. “We actually have families whose babies were born more than 10 years ago and they still love to bring their children and reminisce with the medical team who cared for them,” said Nurse Manager Samantha Cain, R.N. “There usually are several families with twins and triplets. It is gratifying to see the children again and have a chance to watch them grow.”

NICU Medical Director Victor Iskersky, M.D., will be available for interviews at 11:30 a.m.
