Posted on 9/22/2016

EVENT:            Children and Health Care Week

WHEN:            Monday, Sept. 26-Friday, Sept. 30

TIME:               9:15 a.m.-1 p.m.

WHERE:           Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, 7 Richland Medical Park Dr., Atrium

FACTS:             Seventeen hundred Midlands first-graders will get a hands-on learning experience in a unique “mini hospital” setting at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. The tour explores the hospital from a child’s point of view and provides an environment conducive to learning. The event is part of an effort designed to help children and the community learn more about the health care needs of children and their families. This event has been so well received in the Midlands that the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital Child Life department sponsors the event each fall and spring to include as many first-graders as possible.

Hands-on learning stations staffed by team members from Palmetto Health and Richland County EMS include ambulance tours, surgery station, respiratory therapy, pharmacy station, x-ray station, rehab station and children’s emergency department and patient room tours. EdVenture will provide a presentation before the children split into groups to tour the stations.

In addition to team members, USC Dance Marathon and nursing students assist by escorting students to each of the stations.
