Personal Touch Volunteer Responsibilities and Requirements

What will you do as a Personal Touch Volunteer?

Our Personal Touch Volunteers provide comfort care, including both practical and emotional support, to Prisma Health patients and their families, as well as providing staff support. 

Personal Touch Volunteer responsibilities and duties

  • Visit with patients, listen and provide emotional support
  • Feed patients; pass out and pick up meal trays
  • Assist patients in walking
  • Push patients in wheelchairs around the hospital and to their car at discharge
  • Hand out and pick up patient-specific snacks or juices as directed
  • Offer relaxing backrubs to patients, as trained
  • Assist with or give bed-baths
  • Assist patients with personal care
  • Provide patients with diversion and companionship
  • Help with other unit-specific job responsibilities
  • Assist staff with errands (specimens to laboratory, medical records from Health Information, pick up supplies, etc.)
  • Support patients during medical and nursing procedures


  • Fulfill a minimum commitment of one four-hour shift per week for at least one full year
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and manner
  • Express and effectively show compassion
  • Perform duties without constant or direct supervision; exercise initiative
  • Physically assist patients and staff as trained

Who can be a Personal Touch Volunteer?
