Champions Society

A champion fights for and protects a cause. As a member of the Champions Society, you can help to ensure Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital patients and their families are cared for by the best physicians right here in the Midlands.

Who We Are
The Champions Society is an annual giving society of Palmetto Health Foundation and the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital Board. The Society is led by a volunteer committee and comprised of donors who pledge to contribute a minimum of $1,000 annually.

2015 Goal
The 2014/2015 fiscal year goal is to recruit at least 100 Society members to raise $100,000 for the Pediatric Subspecialist Fund. Today, children’s health care needs are complex, and the need for pediatric subspecialists has grown. Pediatric subspecialists are necessary in our community for the diagnosis and treatment of children’s medical conditions. Our goal is to recruit and retain the best physicians at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital to ensure we have all the doctors our children need, right here in Columbia, so that families won’t have to travel long distances for care by a pediatric sub-specialist. The purpose of the Pediatric Subspecialist Fund is to support the recruitment of pediatric subspecialists, associated practice start-up expenses, the establishment of new programs directed by these subspecialists and/or to purchase necessary equipment.

These physicians are difficult to recruit because they are limited in number nationally in comparison to demand. Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital currently has needs in the following pediatric subspecialty areas—child abuse, critical care, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and psychiatry.

Society members will have an opportunity throughout the year to meet Children’s Hospital physicians to better understand the critical need for these subspecialists and to learn more about the great work being done by our Children’s Hospital physicians.
